SPECIALTY GAS FILTERS
A world leader in the sale and distribution of specialty gas equipment was having trouble with one of their filter suppliers.
The overall dimensions of various components were out of the dimensions in the product specification , which led to a number of rejects from their internal Quality Assurance (QA) department. In addition, customers or in this case end users were rejecting shipments because of poor workmanship i.e. weld appearance and machined surfaces were not consistently manufactured to the specified requirements of the product.
This resulted in declining sales. Taking a proactive stance they contacted MW Technologies to design and manufacture a series of filters that eliminated the problems noted above. The result was over forty (+40) different filter assemblies that were successfully designed and supplied to the market place. The product line has been in place for over 20 years and continues to expand.
M.W. Technologies design capabilities and internal QA program has resulted in virtually a 100% acceptance rate over the many years of supplying these products.
SPECIALTY GAS EQUIPMENT
A gas equipment supplier was experiencing declining sales of two of their purifier products.
M.W. Technologies, Inc. was asked to perform a study of the product design. It was found that the method of fabrication utilized manufacturing techniques that were over 35 years old, i.e. brass tubing and plates machined and silver soldered into a housing.
M.W. Technologies designed and developed an aluminum impact extrusion that was dip brazed in the final assembly. The final design led to increased sales with the following advantages over the old design:
Cost reduction
The black anodized exterior was aesthetically more attractive to customers when compared to the old design
The impact extrusion was more reliable and robust since it did not depend on the variables introduced by manual silver soldering
Lighter and easier to handle
Customers have been notably impressed with the Engineering and craftsmanship built into every product M.W.Technologies delivers.
TIG PROCESS ENHANCED
A fabricator of large weapon systems was having trouble maintaining the quality to their titanium welding operations. In a joint effort with the engineers at a government arsenal, it was determined that the industrial grade of gas that was utilized was inconsistent and occasionally contained too much moisture. It was believed that if the moisture level could be reduced from 5 - 10 ppm to consistently under 5 ppm the weld quality could be improved.
Working on a fast track mode a purifier and indicator manufactured by MW Technologies was integrated into a specialty-designed manifold for handling welding gases. The use of this purifying manifold resulted in consistent high quality titanium welds. It also will allow the fabricator to use the purifier assembly with a lower grade and less expensive gas for titanium welding. As a result the fabricator will save money while producing a superior weld.
The assembly will be put through extensive trials by the military in the months to come. Preliminary test results look promising for additional field applications. The net result of this challenge? M W Technologies was driven to develop three new products that can be utilized for high purity TIG titanium and aluminum welding for specialized applications.
